Dr. David Lowry
Dr. David Lowry is the President and Chief Executive Officer of UNC Health Caldwell, a division of the University of North Carolina Health System located in the western North Carolina foothills and mountains. UNC Health Caldwell includes a comprehensive community hospital, an inpatient behavioral health hospital, and multiple medical and surgical practices spanning a three-county region.
Dr Lowry completed his undergraduate studies at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio and graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He served as an Internal Medicine physician at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
He relocated to North Carolina after completing his Air Force service, becoming one of the first hospital medicine specialists in the state. He became the Chief Medical Officer at UNC Health Caldwell in 2017 and the President and CEO in 2023. Dr Lowry’s passion is to provide high quality, world-class health care for those living in the rural areas of western North Carolina. He has a special interest in the implementation of virtual service lines, quality improvement and patient safety and has led significant organizational growth over the past few years.
Dr Lowry is a Fellow of the Advisory Board in Washington, D.C. and completed an MBA at Lenoir Rhyne University. He and his wife, Dana, live in Lenoir, North Carolina. They are the parents of six young adult children and enjoy hiking in the North Carolina Mountains and spending time with family at the beach.
